Welcome to Fur Keeps Animal Rescue!

Adopting a Friend...

Based on a farm in Barrington Hills with Dr. Rykoff's "Ventur-On Farm Veterinary Clinic" Fur Keeps' rescued  dogs, cats, and horses have the opportunity to receive the best medical care possible with unmatched supervision.

Each dog is examined by a licensed veterinarian; vaccinated for Distemper, Rabies, and Parvo; heartworm tested; micro-chipped; spayed/neutered; and temperament tested. Cats and horses are given similar attention. Additional medical procedures such as surgery and dental work are provided as needed.

We're happy to say that one benefit of "farm life" is that our dogs are housed in roomy horse stalls with other like-minded (similar personality) dogs so that they can socialize, play, and sleep with friends instead of merely being placed in an isolated kennel. Another highlight that's enjoyed daily at Fur Keeps is getting exercise by running & playing in the indoor arena with fellow stall-mates!

Potential adopters must be at least 21 years of age, provide proof of identity, and complete our adoption screening process which includes:

  • An Adoption Application and Contract
  • An interview
  • A home check
  • A personal reference check
  • Renters must also provide permission from the landlord that pets are permitted in the residence.

Our adoption fee is $250 for dogs and $125 for cats which helps cover a portion of the animal's expenses while in our care.

Listings of our adoptable pets can be found at the top of the page.  Once you find a pet that you're interested in, you can start the adoption process by simply filling out our online Adoption Application form. Once completed, just hit the "Submit by Email" button. An Adoption Coordinator will follow-up with you as quickly as possible to further process your request and answer any questions you may have.

Before filling out your application, we invite you to watch this powerful 3-minute video "The Apology" which illustrates the importance of responsible pet ownership. We encourage everyone seeking to add a pet to their family to consider the lifelong commitment involved; and to reflect on these factors when making their decision.

"The Apology Video" was created by Retriever Rescue of Colorado

Fur Keeps Animal Rescue primarily adopts dogs into homes located in Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, and Northwest Indiana regions. Post-adoption, we continue to provide follow-up support and guidance to adoptive families.
